Finalising

Handmade Titlecard

Film Magazine

Original Poster

In these screenshots we can see how different my titlecard, film magazine and film poster were when we started this project, during the finalising process changes were made, personally I think that they were for the better. This post is just to show how things evolve when we work, ideas that may seem good at the time, later make no sense and seem inadequate.

Genre of my production

My coursework production DIRE can be classed in a few different genres, such as drama/action/British social realism. The reason for this is that includes some different aspects of these genres. The name of the film "DIRE" seems very action genre, however the content of the film involves depression which can be seen as more of a drama. However I believe that it fills the role of a social realism film due to it being about life stories, drugs and happiness.

License Free Music

License Free Music
In my search for license free music I have been through many different websites searching for the right piece to go with my production, I have created my own music and was planning on using it, however I found a piece that I feel better suit the edits I was planning on doing. I am unable to post it due to it not being an image. The title of the piece is "Quiet". It isn't actually quiet, id say its a pretty respectable decibel level plus it works well with the film.

Coursework parts 2 & 3 production

As part of my A2 coursework task I must create a film trailer as well as an original movie poster for the film, and the cover of a magazine featuring my film as its main headliner. I have decided to create these on photoshop as it it best qualified for job, hence why photoshop is regarded as the industry standard.
For the magazine cover i have just tried to get a normal layout of what film magazines look like (usually), I still need to do a bit of work to it before it stars looking like a professional film magazine front cover. The image is most likely to change due to it not really showing anything about the film, I plan on getting more images that could be used as the cover in due course. As for the rest of it i may have to updated some of the dates and films featured because it was started late last year.

This is what I have been working on for my productions original poster, it shows the name of the film including tagline, prop cocaine poured out onto a cutting mirror, pile of money in the background and the characters' lighter, which is incased within a shotgun shell. I took this photograph personally, so it is all original, the title of the film has been edited to be made from cocaine, although its just hard to see. This was done in reference to my old poster idea with blue sky coming through the dark clouds. The award sticker in the top corner has been put there just to see where I could include some handmade awards for the final piece, as to give it that independent film look. The titles in the lower portion of the poster will stay the same despite those people not actually being in the film anymore (except Danny dyer, he was never in it).

Title Text Research

  • Good use of colours, writing almost seems PopArt styled.
  • Contrast of colour, could suggest. some irony, possibly as a narrative tool.
  • Has an element of retro to it i.e. 80s.
  • Simplicity.
  • Isn't over-powering to the rest of the still, doesn't block any of the character.

  • Simplicity of text.
  • Good composition in general, in regards to the text with it being against clouds, it reinforces the message of going into the unknown.
  • Names of actors placed out of the way of main poster, but still visible.
  • Characters clothing is scruffy, unkept, not high-end branding, this connotes that he doesn't particularly care about how he looks when going into the wild. Further shows that he will be truly wild, as the title suggests.

Character images/poster ideas

In a previous post I mentioned that I will be adding the main character into the poster later on. These examples were my original ideas of how I wanted the character to be standing in the poster. In this one my idea my was photoshop out the houses and bushes just leaving the character, fields and open sky to show isolation and emptiness. In the example below the character is more zoomed in and centre of attention. In that example I would've removed him from the rest of the picture and placed him the poster as it is already. I'll have to try out a few of these ideas before I can come to a final conclusion of what to do.

The Editing Process

In this screenshot we see me editing on final cut X, well, more planning my edits and getting the timing of them to match the song I have playing in the background. Once I can gather some more footage I should be able to get the final shell of the trailer done, then on to the fine tuning and any last minute details may have missed originally.

DIRE poster creation

Creating the Film Poster:
Recently I have been designing and creating the poster for my A2 film trailer "DIRE". Like many film posters it has the name of the film in large bold letters to show dominance on the page, titles such as director/actors/etc. at the bottom as to not draw to much attention away from the main part. The little subheading under the main title is the example Google uses to explain Dire, it fit in with my films themes of drug abuse and consequences so I feel that it is a nice touch to the poster as it hints at the themes and story of my character. Currently the background is grey clouds which are symbolic of bad things to come and general negative emotions. suspended within the clouds is the title written in the clouds almost. The idea of this was to suggest that maybe some clear skies are just behind the gloom and misery. There is a sense of irony within the poster due to the word DIRE being the happiest looking image on the poster despite being considered a bad thing. at the moment the main character (Me) is not on the poster, however I shall be getting round to throwing him into the equation and making sure that he fits into the frame of the clouds and titles well. All in due time.

Soundtrack Choice

This is a screenshot of myself editing the first piece of original music for my film. I have recorded a few different pieces already, it is now just a matter of editing them all together and making it so that they stay in time with the films edits etc. I have used Garageband to edit the pieces because it gives me the options to remove any hiss, background noise, picking etc. this will make the final track sound much clearer and hopefully get me a higher grade.
